Fun Ways to Spruce up Your Outdoor Living Space

Summer is in full swing here in the Okanagan and she's a hot one already! There's nothing quite like outdoor living in BC in the summer! Patio sippin', porch swing sittin', soaking up those glorious rays and enjoying the cool evenings outside.
Your porch, deck or patio is the perfect space to get creative with design! Have fun with it and be bold with colors, patterns and textures! Setting the mood with some lighting is a great place to start the transformation! Strands of twinkling fairy lights always has a big impact on ambiance, bringing a magical starry night feel to your space. My advice: drape them anywhere and everywhere! You can also line your garden path with lanterns, solar lights or torches for soft mood lighting.
Adding a new area rug is a quick and easy decorating go to for creating a drastic style change without breaking the bank. Use the rug as a focal point and then choose a few decor pieces that pull from the colors of your new rug!
Flowers are an amazing way to add pops of color to your space! Pick flowers that attract butterflies and bees like daisies, asters, sunflowers and marigolds. Don't forget to get some lavender, peppermint, basil or lemon balm to repel those pesky Jurassic-like mosquitoes!
Seating is one of the most important aspects for creating the ultimate outdoor living space. Big outside pillows, comfy chairs, benches or a day bed will create a cozy area for you and your guests to relax and unwind. Pallets are amazing to upcycle for outdoor furniture! They are free and can be easily spruced up with a bit of paint and some fluffy pillows and linens! A quick Google search will provide you with an abundance of beautiful pallet furniture ideas!
While you're out collecting pallets grab one for a vertical garden! A vertical garden is the perfect space saver when you are working with limited area and still want to grow some plants. A few slight adjustments and fill with some dirt and your favorite herbs like dill, basil, thyme and rosemary, some flowers or strawberries.
There's so many ways to refresh your outside space to create your own personal outdoor oasis. The perfect spot for BBQs and get togethers or a private retreat for sunbathing and sipping on some of the best wine in the world. Get outside and live the good life of the Okanagan Valley!
